About Us

After 25 years as an ASE certified mechanic and 17 years in the Army, David Smith decided it was time for a change. With his military retirement fast approaching, David and his wife Nicole started planning for the future. In 2016 they took a leap of faith and OCDetailing was born.

Starting out, OCDetailing occupied one single unit in the Aspen Building at 1201 N. Lucille Street. David had one employee and they started off by detailing one car a day. It wasn’t the most profitable business model, but David was proud of the work they put out. Nicole took on the marketing and social media aspects of the business along with her own full-time job as the director of their other business, Rising Star Child Care. Her before and after pictures of the details David was completing grew their social media and word of mouth spread quickly. After 2 years, the demand for appointments and fleet details had grown enough to require additional staff. In 2021 they expanded into a second unit of the building and added on ceramic coating and paint correction services as well as a P&S Detail Products storefront. The most exciting part of the expansion allowed for the shop dogs, Lilly & Walker to have their own space in the showroom. Every day they come to work with smiles on their faces to greet the customers! This year will bring even more exciting changes as they expand to a third unit and add Paint Protection Film and Window Tint to the service menu in 2025.

The goal at OCDetailing is to always provide their customers with the best possible customer experience and finished product. We make it a priority to always stay up-to-date with the best products and materials. Continuing education is also key to staying current in the industry. In 2020 David trained at Detailing Success becoming the only IDA Skills verified certified detailer in the Mat-Su Valley. In 2022 he traveled to the P&S Training Center to become a certified ceramic coating installer and in 2025 trained with Opticle Films to become a certified Paint Protection Film installer.

In 2022, David was chosen to join the McCalls/Motorlux detailing team that traveled to California to participate in Monterey Car Week and detail the vehicles for The Quail events. In 2023, he was selected to be a freshman member of the Air Force One Detailing team for the 20th anniversary of the project. The team consisted of 40 detailers from all over the world who traveled to the Museum of Flight in Washington, where they spent a week restoring several historical planes, including B-15 bombers and the original Air Force One. David will be returning to the project in 2025, as he was again selected for this amazing opportunity.

While being chosen for these projects within the detailing industry is an honor, David and Nicole are also extremely proud of the events they participate in here in their local community. OCDetailing is a sponsor of the 18 Holes of Hope golf tournament at the Settlers Bay Golf Course each year. This tournament benefits My House, an organization dedicated to ending homelessness in our youth population. Additionally, David and Nicole sponsor My House through other community and Rotary events throughout the year.

Another event OCDetailing is proud to sponsor is Rev Alaska. This event brings motorsport enthusiasts of all ages together under one roof in a spectacular show, and they have been a sponsor since its inception in 2017.

Family is the most important thing to David and Nicole, and they are extremely proud of their children. Their son Bradley works on the North Slope and, during his time home, works with them in the shop. Bradley is also a certified ceramic coating, window tint, and paint protection film installer.

Their daughter Lacy attended Colorado State University and graduated in 2020. While still living in Colorado, Lacy makes every effort to participate in as many events as possible. She has attended Rev Alaska and 18 Holes of Hope as a representative for OCDetailing, and in 2023, she participated in the Cruisin Hidden Spring Car show sponsored by P&S. Maybe we will see her back in the shop someday!

The Smith family’s passion for all things cars has definitely been passed down to the next generation.
